HC Deb 03 May 1984 vol 59 c236W
Mr. Wareing

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what steps Her Majesty's Government are taking to prevent the further outbreak of hostilities on the island of Cyprus.

Mr. Whitney

We remain in close touch with the parties involved in the Cyprus dispute. They are all in no doubt as to our views. We fully support the United Nations Secretary-General's efforts to make progress towards a settlement as reaffirmed in United Nations Security Council resolution 541, which calls on all states to refrain from action which might exacerbate the situation. We are ready to assist him as best we can.
