HC Deb 02 May 1984 vol 59 c156W
Mr. Bowen Wells

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how much additional revenue he estimates to receive on imported wines as a result of the withdrawal of the value added tax postponed accounting system on imports, arising because of the earlier payment of value added tax by the trader before the tax can be recovered from the consumer.

Mr. Hayhoe

It is estimated that bringing forward the payment of VAT on imports of wine would increase net receipts in 1984–85 by the order of £10 million to £15 million.
