§ Mr. Teddy Taylorasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what estimate he has made of the net 157W contribution which the United Kingdom would require to make to the European Economic Community in 1984, 1985 and 1986, respectively, if the most recent proposals of Her Majesty's Government to the Council of Ministers were accepted by that body.
§ Mr. Ian StewartAt the European Council, my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister said she could accept net reliefs to the United Kingdom of 1,000 mecu in respect of 1984, and thereafter a system which, when applied to 1983 figures, gave net relief of 1,250 mecu. The effects of these arrangements on our actual net contribution in 1984, 1985 and 1986 would depend on the parameters of this system, which have yet to be negotiated, and on economic developments.
§ Mr. Teddy Taylorasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will estimate the net contributions which the United Kingdom would require to make to the European Economic Community in 1984, 1985 and 1986 if no agreement is arrived at on the reform of the budget structure and no increase takes place in the resources available to the Community.
§ Mr. Ian Stewart[pursuant to his reply, 1 May 1984]: The last public expenditure White Paper (Cmnd 9143, volume 2, page 13) gives estimates of the United Kingdom's net contribution to the Community budget over this period. These estimates assume that the 1 per cent. VAT ceiling is unchanged and that the United Kingdom continues to receive annual ad hoc refunds of two thirds of our net contribution to that part of the budget allocated between member states.
