HC Deb 02 May 1984 vol 59 c184W
Mr. D. E. Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Wales why he has decided to undertake a comprehensive county inspection of education services.

Mr. John Stradling Thomas

No firm decision has yet been taken whether countywide surveys of educational provision will extend to the whole of Wales. The study of Her Majesty's inspectorate in England and Wales recommended a programme of such surveys leading to reports which draw on information and assessments already available, supplemented by some additional visiting. One such report has been issued in Wales, and I believe that the LEA concerned found it to be a useful document which has provided the Secretary of State with a valuable view of educational services in the county.
