HC Deb 30 March 1984 vol 57 cc339-40W
Mr. Beggs

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland (1) if any decision has been taken regarding the provision of science parks in Northern Ireland;

(2) if he will consider supporting the joint provision of a science park at the Ulster university Jordanstown, or on land owned by Newtownabbey borough council.

Mr. Butler

Following a full evaluation of the potential benefits of a science park for the regeneration and development of Northern Ireland industry, the Industrial Development Board has decided in principle to proceed with the implementation of such a project after consultation with the Local Enterprise Development Unit, higher education interests and industry.

It is not possible at this time to be definitive about the precise location for the science park as a number of potential sites are still being evaluated.
