HC Deb 30 March 1984 vol 57 c306W
Mr. Fisher

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department why he has delayed the implementation of his new policy on Lion Intoximeters until 16 April.

Mr. Hurd

After consultation we concluded that 16 April is the earliest date on which the extended blood-urine option can be implemented because of the need for the police to prepare to operate the new system uniformly and for the magistrates courts to be fully informed of the procedures which the police will adopt.

Mr. Fisher

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many cases he estimates will come before the courts before 16 April which involve evidence from the Lion Intoximeter.

Mr. Hurd

I estimate that some 2,500 to 3,000 cases involving evidence from the Lion Intoximeter may come before the courts in England and Wales between 30 March 1984 and 15 April 1984.
