asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many schemes for which tenders have been received the Northern Ireland Housing Executive has failed to accept within the three-months acceptance period at 1 March 1984.

Mr. Chris Patten

This is a matter for the Northern Ireland Housing Executive, but I understand from the chairman that 1,009 schemes were tendered for during the period from 1 April 1983 to March 1984 and that tenders in respect of 53 of these were accepted outside the three-month acceptance period.

(2) how many tenants have purchased their own home from the Northern Ireland Housing Executive in the Newry and Mourne district council area since the inception of the home ownership scheme.

Mr. Chris Patten

This is a matter for the Northern Ireland Housing Executive, but I understand from the chairman that 782 tenants in Armagh district council area and 1,397 in Newry and Mourne district council area had purchased their own homes up to 2 March 1984.

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland (1) what is the total housing stock in the Newry and Mourne district council area owned by the Northern Ireland Housing Executive;

(2) what is the total housing stock in the Armagh city and district council area owned by the Northern Ireland Housing Executive.

Mr. Chris Patten

These are matters for the Northern Ireland Housing Executive, but I understand from the chairman that at 1 March 1984 the total housing stock owned by the executive in the Newry and Mourne district council area was 9,744; and in the Armagh district council area (including Armagh city) 4,862.

Mr. Peter Robinson

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how much has been spent by the Northern Ireland Housing Executive on advertising house sales in each of the last five years.

Mr. Chris Patten

I refer the hon. Gentleman to the reply given to the hon. Member for Antrim, North (Rev. Ian Paisley) on 23 February 1984, at column 626.
