HC Deb 30 March 1984 vol 57 c352W
Mr. Wareing

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many representations he has now received favourable to the recommendations of the 1981 report on nutritional aspects of bread and flour, and how many unfavourable; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. John Patten

Thirty-three critical representations have been received in the Department about various recommendations in the report from the chief medical officers' committee on the medical aspects of food policy (COMA) on the nutritional aspects of bread and flour. A large number of other representations both for and against the implementation of certain of the COMA recommendations have been received during the consultations that have taken place on the proposals for new bread and flour regulations. A further statement regarding these recommendations was published yesterday in a joint announcement by the Department and the Agriculture Departments in England and Wales.
