HC Deb 29 March 1984 vol 57 c292W
Mr. Steen

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how much money has been made available by his Department to facilitate the building of an apron on the southern airfield at Liverpool Speke airport; and if he has any plans to invest further public money in the development of the new airport terminal buildings.

Mr. Patrick Jenkin

The total cost of the airport apron scheme is £.1.8 million. The scheme is one of Merseyside county council's agreed urban programme projects and therefore attracts grant at the rate of 75 per cent. However, the county has recently been successful in obtaining a European regional development fund grant of £585,000 towards the scheme and the sum on which urban programme grant is payable will be reduced accordingly.

Merseyside county council has put proposals to my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Transport concerning the terminal buildings and he is currently studying them. No decision has yet been taken.
