HC Deb 29 March 1984 vol 57 c267W
23. Mr. Maude

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what recent action the Government have taken to control the spread of Newcastle disease.

Mrs. Fenner

Suspect cases are immediately investigated and movement restrictions applied, if appropriate. When the disease is confirmed poultry on an infected holding are slaughtered and destroyed. An infected area of about 10 km radius is usually imposed round the holding concerned in which all movement is prohibited except under licence. In addition, tracing is undertaken and restrictions are imposed on holdings in the vicinity and other premises considered to be at risk.
