HC Deb 29 March 1984 vol 57 cc262-3W
Rev. William McCrea

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what is the current trend in vacancies and its implications for future employment patterns in Northern Ireland.

Mr. Butler

The following vacancies have been notified to employment service jobmarkets in Northern Ireland:

Number
1979 35,867
1980 28,219
1981 20,814
1982 24,113
1983 25,166

These figures, which may represent as little as one fifth of the total number of vacancies, indicate the trend of recent years. The main area of expansion is in the services sector of employment.
