§ Mr. Maddenasked the Secretary of State for Employment (1) what measures have been introduced, since the start of the youth training scheme, to improve safety;
(2) why the Manpower Services Commission is unwilling to agree that every place where work experience 199W is being provided is visited or inspected by any Manpower Services Commission or Health and Safety Executive officer:
(3) what information he has as to how many trainees have left the youth training scheme because of their concern about their safety since the start of the scheme; how many such trainees have had their supplementary benefit reduced; by what amount their benefit has been reduced; and on what ground benefit can be reduced;
(4) what representations he has received against the closure of mode B projects under the youth training scheme; what is the reduction in such placements being planned; over what period; and what consultation has taken place with interested parties.

§ Mr. Maddenasked the Secretary of State for Employment how many trainees there are currently placed under the youth training scheme; how many have been placed under A1 schemes and what is the current total number; and how many have been placed under B1 schemes and what is the current total number.
§ Mr. Peter MorrisonThere were 259,282 young people in training under the youth training scheme at the end of February 1984. By that date 237,739 young people had entered mode A schemes, of whom 185,465 were still in training, and 79,539 had entered mode B1 schemes, of whom 55,319 were still in training.
