HC Deb 27 March 1984 vol 57 c150W
21. Mr Alton

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what recent representations he has received concerning the level of housing benefits.

Dr. Boyson

Since last November we have received representations on our decisions to make reductions in housing benefit from the Social Security Advisory Committee, Members of Parliament, the local authority associations voluntary organisations, and members of the public.

42. Mr. Andrew Bowden

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will make a statement on his proposed changes to housing benefit in November 1984 including any consultations he has held concerning a limit to losses for pensioners.

Dr. Boyson

As announced on 6 February, we have deferred some of the proposed reductions in the housing benefit scheme until November 1984. We are currently discussing with the local authority associations the practicality of putting a limit on losses from the deferred changes. These ideas do not apply specifically to pensioners.
