HC Deb 26 March 1984 vol 57 cc5-6W
Mr. Michael Marshall

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry whether, further to his reply on 29 February, Official Report, column 177, to the hon. Member for Arundel, he accepted the recommendation of the Electronics Economic Development Committee that in order to mitigate the adverse effects of the proposed reduction in the semiconductor tariff the Government should seek agreement to the provision, by EEC or national Governments, of temporary selective support for the semiconductor manufacturers.

Mr. Butcher

The Secretary of State has taken note of that part of the electronics EDC recommendation which suggests that the EEC should be prepared to introduce, or allow national Governments to introduce, temporary selective measures only if the continued development of integrated circuit manufactures are adversely affected by the change.
