§ Mr. Adleyasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will examine the funds to job ratio of the Nissan project vis-a-vis urban development grant projects; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. ButcherIf Nissan proceed to the second phase of its two-phase project, the total payable in regional development grants and selective financial assistance is estimated at up to £88 million if the project is in a development area, and up to £112 million if the project is in a special development area. This would be for a plant employing directly around 2,700 people, but capable of generating considerable further employment. So far as the funds to jobs ratios of urban development grant projects are concerned, I refer my hon. Friend to the answer given by my hon. Friend the Under-Secretary of State for the Environment on 10 February in column813.
