HC Deb 26 March 1984 vol 57 cc92-3W
Mr. Deakins

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what are the major differences between the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation strategy and the United States air-land battle plan.

Mr. Stanley

Air-land battle sets out the operational doctrine for the many contingencies which the US Army might face worldwide. NATO strategy and operational plans are concerned with deterrence and defence within the NATO area. In the event of hostilities in that area, Allied operations would be conducted in accordance with NATO operational plans.
