§ Mr. Alan ClarkThe Easington constituency lies mainly in the Peterlee and partly in the Wearside travel-to work areas. On 9 February, the rates of unemployment in these travel-to-work areas were 18.8 per cent. and 21.4 per cent., respectively. The corresponding rate for the Northern region was 17.6 per cent. and for the United Kingdom 13.4 per cent.
