Mr. Wallace

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what proportion of local authority houses in Scotland have been insulated up to or above the standards of current building regulations.

The information available centrally does not relate expressly to insulation standards required under the building regulations. An estimate made by a private firm (Audits of Great Britain Ltd) on the basis of a sample survey carried out in December 1982 indicated that some 274,000 (29 per cent.) local authority houses met the standard in force at that time: of this total 63,000 (7 per cent.) had insulation of 100 mm thickness as now required for new housing under building standards regulations introduced in March 1983.

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he will list, for each local housing authority in Scotland, the number of homes owned by them which have been insulated per quarter from April to June 1982 to date.
