HC Deb 22 March 1984 vol 56 cc532-3W
Mr. Maples

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many dwellings he estimates will be built or acquired by public housing authorities, including regional and county councils, new towns and similar public bodies in England in each of the years 1984, 1985, 1986 and 1987; and how many dwellings will be sold by those authorities under the right-to-buy legislation.

Sir George Young

For the purpose of estimating English local authority housing capital receipts, 162,000 council dwellings were assumed to be sold in 1984–85, including voluntary as well as right-to-buy sales. The new town corporations estimate about 2,500 voluntary and right-to-buy sales in 1984–85. These estimates do not include other public authorities, including county councils.

My Department has made no estimates of building or of acquisitions.
