HC Deb 22 March 1984 vol 56 c551W
Sir Hector Monro

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what guidance he has given to chief constables about the issue of firearms to police officers.

Mr. Younger

Following consultation with the Association of Chief Police Officers (Scotland) I have approved guidelines for the police on the issue of firearms. These have been sent to chief constables today and copies have been placed in the Libraries of both Houses. The guidelines are to be read in conjunction with guidelines for the police on operational use of firearms prepared by the Lord Advocate.
