HC Deb 22 March 1984 vol 56 c548W
Mr. Wallace

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what factors he takes into account in deciding whether to enter into an undertaking with a company under the Highlands and Islands Shipping Services Act 1960.

Mr. Ancram

Regard is paid to the company's eligibility under the Act and the broad interests of the islands, including such considerations as the adequacy of existing shipping services and overall market conditions.
