HC Deb 22 March 1984 vol 56 c546W
Mr. Speed

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what discussions he has had with General Motors about building in Britain a larger proportion of their cars sold here; and what has been the result so far of these discussions.

Mr. Butcher

There are regular discussions between my Department and General Motors on its UK production and marketing plans. It has already been announced that by the end of 1984 Vauxhall will have increased its UK sourcing to the point where it will be producing in the UK about 65 per cent. of the cars that it sells in the British market.
