HC Deb 21 March 1984 vol 56 c498W
Mr. Leighton

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he will publish in the Official Report a table showing how the estimate of £1,274 million expenditure in 1983–84 on agricultural intervention given in the autumn statement was built up in terms of forecast surpluses and other expenditure; and what the latest reports on activity in agriculture suggest regarding the level of intervention payments was to be expected.

Mr. Jopling

The forecast was made up as follows:

£ million
Class III Vote 1 Agricultural Support (Intervention Board for Agricultural Produce) Intervention buying less sales 531
Other internal market measures 449
External trade measures 260
Food Aid 16
Class III Vote 4 Central Administration (Intervention Board for Agricultural Produce) 18
1,274

Most of the Vote 1 expenditure is prefunded or reimbursed by the Community. Latest forecasts indicate that the total will not be exceeded.
