HC Deb 20 March 1984 vol 56 c398W
18. Dr. Marek

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what plans he has to tackle the problem of unemployment amongst young people completing youth training schemes in the current year for whom jobs are not available.

Mr. Peter Morrison

In addition to the improving prospects for young people's employment from the upturn in the economy, the changes to the young workers scheme announced in December will help those completing the youth training scheme into jobs.

39. Mr. Bruce

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what Government measures he envisages to increase the number of young people at work.

Mr. Peter Morrison

An improvement in employment opportunities for young people will be achieved through the general improvement in the economy which the Government's policies are helping to bring about. Young people will be better prepared to grasp these opportunities as a result of the Government's considerable range of special employment and training measures, especially the youth training scheme.
