asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he considers the results of the new technical and vocational education initiative pilot projects are likely to warrant the wider adoption of the scheme; and if he will make a statement.

The first 14 pilot projects under the technical and vocational education initiative started last autumn and a second round will get under way later this year. It is too soon to evaluate these pilot projects, but I have been encouraged by the start that has been made and I am optimistic that local education authorities will wish to apply the educational lessons learned more widely.
