HC Deb 20 March 1984 vol 56 c408W
61. Mr. Alexander

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he is satisfied that the monthly unemployment statistics give sufficient details of categories of vacancies to identify where there are shortages of skills and labour.

Mr. Alan Clark

The Government recognise that the existing vacancy statistics do not in themselves constitute an adequate indicator of potential skill shortages and the Manpower Services Commission is currently taking steps to improve the flow of information about vacancies which are proving hard to fill.
