HC Deb 20 March 1984 vol 56 c426W
Mr. Corbyn

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what are the average earnings per week of domestics, porters and nurses in National Health Service hospitals.

Mr. John Patten

The average earnings of full-time ancillary staff in the pay groups covering domestics (Group 1) and porters (Groups 2–4) are as follows:

£ per week
Pay Group 1 89.00
Pay Group 2 95.00
Pay Group 3 104.00
Pay Group 4 104.10

The figures reflect the earnings of other types of ancillary staff paid on the same rates of pay as domestics and porters.

The average weekly earnings of a full-time staff nurse are £121.75.

These figures, which exclude London weighting, are derived from returns supplied by nine regions for the period April to June 1983.
