HL Deb 19 March 1984 vol 449 c1095WA
Lord Beaumont of Whitley

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they are aware of the World Health Organisation's former plans to publish a report on Alcohol Beverages: Dimensions of Corporate Power, by John Cavanagh and Frederick Clairmonte, and of the reversal of those plans, allegedly under pressure; whether they have made any representations on this matter; and whether they will use their influence to see that it is publicised.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Health and Social Security (Lord Glenarthur)

The World Health Organisation inform us that the report referred to was commissioned by the organisation's Working Party on Alcohol Consumption. We had no knowledge of it. It is for the World Health Organisation to decide whether or not to publish it and it would not be appropriate for Her Majesty's Government to make representations.
