asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list in the Official Report the names and addresses of all the primary and secondary schools in Strathclyde region which have been closed in each of the years from 1979 to date.

My Department does not collect information on school closures but is considering whether arrangements should be made to do so. The following table shows closure proposals in Strathclyde region for which my right hon. Friend gave his approval from 3 May 1979 to date. Since 1 December 1981 it has not been necessary, except in a few prescribed circumstances, for education authorities to obtain my right hon. Friend's consent to school closures.
