HC Deb 15 March 1984 vol 56 c228W
Mr. Dobson

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many burglar alarm calls were attended to by the Metropolitan police in each police district in each year since 1979–80; and how many such calls turned out to be false alarms.

Mr. Hurd

I understand that figures are not available separately for each Metropolitan police district, nor for alarms signalled by bells only. Figures that are available relate to alarms whose signals go to the police direct, or via central stations maintained by alarm companies. The total number of calls from these alarms attended to by the Metropolitan police, and the number that turned out to be false, are as follows:

Total calls False calls
1979 177,370 174,636
1980 177,919 175,610
1981 182,941 179,698
1982 186,123 182,870
1983 196,190 193,470
