Mr. David Marshall

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many houses are below the tolerable standard in Scotland, the Strathclyde region, Glasgow district and the area covered by the Shettleston constituency, respectively.

Mr. Ancram

It is estimated on the basis of local authority returns that there were 81,000 houses below the tolerable standard in Scotland at 31 March 1983. Corresponding figures for Strathclyde region and Glasgow district are 32,700 and 19,400, respectively. Areas within local authority districts are not identified separately.
