HC Deb 14 March 1984 vol 56 c195W
Mr. David Marshall

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is his latest estimate of the number of homeless persons in Scotland, Strathclyde region, Glasgow district and the area covered by the Shettleston constituency, respectively.

Mr. Ancram

Estimates of the number of homeless persons in Scotland at a given date are not available. However, 14,300 applications for assistance were reported by local housing authorities as having been made in Scotland under the Housing (Homeless Persons) Act 1977 during the year ended 31 March 1983. The corresponding figures for Strathclyde region and Glasgow district were 9,050 and 4,500, respectively. Areas below district level are not identified separately.
