Mr. Pike

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many grant applications were made in the last financial year in England (a) for improvement grants, (b) for repair grants, (c) for intermediate grants and (d) for insulation grants; how many of these applications were approved; and if he will estimate the likely comparative figures for the current financial year.

It is not possible to make a reliable estimate of the numbers of grants which will be approved by the end of the financial year 1983–84 in each category given above. Approvals have already reached record levels.
