HL Deb 14 March 1984 vol 449 c852WA
Baroness Masham of Ilton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will ensure that the British Airports Authority conforms with the law as laid down in BS 5810 (1979) in the provision of lavatory facilities at Terminal 1 at Heathrow Airport, which recently have been modified by the addition of a fixed handrail which makes it impossible for a disabled person in a wheelchair to use them.

Lord Trefgarne

The policy of the British Airports Authority is to provide approved facilities at their airports to meet the needs of disabled travellers. A few lavatory installations still incorporate a fixed rail but these have been in existence for some time. They are being replaced progressively and will then conform to the requirements of BS 5810 (1979). This work will be completed within a few months.
