HL Deb 12 March 1984 vol 449 cc622-3WA
Lord Winstanley

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many registered disabled people were unemployed at the most recent date for which figures are available, what percentage this is of the total unemployed and what were the corresponding figures 12 months previously.

The Earl of Gowrie

Information on the number of registered disabled people who are unemployed is only available for those who choose to register for employment at jobcentres and careers offices. Since October 1982 registration for employment has been voluntary. On 2nd December 1983, the latest date for which figures are available, there were 55,652 registered disabled people who were unemployed and registered for work at jobcentres and careers offices. This figure represents 1.9 per cent. of the total number of unemployed claimants. The figures for December 1982 were 75,365 and 2.5 per cent. Respectively.
