HC Deb 12 March 1984 vol 56 c5W
Mr. Parry

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how much is being spent on civil defence in (a) Liverpool and (b) Merseyside concerning a possible nuclear war.

Mr. Hurd

Civil defence planning must take account of the threat of conventional as well as nuclear attack. The latest estimates for the current year indicate civil defence expenditure in Liverpool of £2,551 and in Merseyside (a metropolitan county whose civil defence responsibilities include the metropolitan district of Liverpool) of £328,590.
