HC Deb 08 March 1984 vol 55 c710W
Mr. Robert Atkins

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will estimate the cost of re-winging the remainder of the RAF Jet Provost fleet at 1984 prices.

Mr. Pattie

It is a longstanding practice of Her Majesty's Government to treat information relating to procurement contracts as commercially confidential. This is designed to protect the Government's position as buyer.

Mr. Robert Atkins

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will estimate the cost of further necessary remedial refitting of the RAF Jet Provost fleet commensurate with a further (a) five years' and (b) 10 years' life, at 1984 prices.

Mr. Pattie

Refurbishment of the RAF Jet Provost fleet is one of the options being considered to meet the RAF's basic training aircraft requirement over the next decade. Our studies of various submissions from industry will continue for some months and, in accordance with the Department's practice, related information is treated as commercially confidential.
