HC Deb 06 March 1984 vol 55 c515W
Mr. Lawrence

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what progress has been made in the reduction of crime since 1981 in Scotland.

Mr. Ancram

The number of crimes recorded by the police in Scotland increased by 6.6 per cent. between 1981 and 1982. Figures for the full year 1983 are not yet available, but the number of crimes recorded in the first six months of 1983 was 0.5 per cent. less than the corresponding period in 1982. The indications are, however, that the full year figures for 1983 will show a small increase over 1982.
