HC Deb 05 March 1984 vol 55 cc403-4W
Mr. Mason

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what benefits Yorkshire and Humberside will receive from the £89 million of aid afforded from the second series of measures under the non-quota section of the European regional development fund; which projects and areas are likely to benefit; what aid the region has received so far from previous non-quota measures, specifying the industries concerned; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Trippier

The recently-approved second series of regulations to implement aid schemes under the non-quota section of the European regional development fund are enabling only; member states eligible for benefit must prepare and submit special programmes for the approval of the Commission and the fund management committee. Programmes for the United Kingdom are in the course of preparation but it is not expected that they will be approved before the end of the year. Until the programmes are approved, it is not possible to say what benefits will be accorded to particular regions or projects.

Yorkshire and Humberside is not eligible for assistance under the first series of non-quota measures.
