§ Mr. Randallasked the Secretary of State for Employment what information he has about the number of young people involved in and on the waiting list for the Hull community action scheme.
§ Mr. Peter MorrisonThere are currently 170 young people in training on the part of the scheme which operates in Hull. There are 35 vacant places and therefore no need for a waiting list. There are a further 99 young people in training on the community action scheme south of the Humber with 55 places still vacant.
§ Mr. Randallasked the Secretary of State for Employment what representations he has received about the proposed cuts in the Hull community action scheme.
§ Mr. Peter MorrisonI have received copies of several letters objecting to the proposed changes and during my visit to Hull on 17 January 1984 I met two members of the Hull city council who made representations on behalf of the scheme
§ Mr. Randallasked the Secretary of State for Employment what estimate he has made of the number of young unemployed people who will lose the opportunity to take part in the Hull community action scheme as a result of the proposed reductions in financial support.
§ Mr. Peter MorrisonThe part of the community action scheme operating in Hull has places for 205 young people. It is proposed to reduce this number to 175. The average number of young people on the scheme in the last year was 156, and at no time exceeded 179.
There will, of course, continue to be a number of other schemes offering a wide range of training opportunities to youngsters in the area.
