HC Deb 05 March 1984 vol 55 c469W
Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he will consult the chairman of the University Grants Committee about the future of the department of pharmacy at Heriot-Watt university, having regard to (a) the special features of the Scottish examination system and (b) the Scottish requirements for trained pharmacists in retail pharmacy in the pharmaceutical industry and in the National Health Service.

Mr. Allan Stewart

The Government do not normally intervene in decisions by the University Grants Committee which affect the future of specific university departments. However, the committee, which has members from Scotland, is aware of the various representations which have been made on this subject.
