HC Deb 05 March 1984 vol 55 c398W
Mr. John Fraser

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many complaints of fraud were received by the Metropolitan police as a result of advertisements appearing in The Sun and the northern press for craftsmen to serve in the middle east and inviting them to send cheques for advance payments of £250 each for air tickets.

Mr. Hurd

I understand from the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis that 233 complaints have been made to him about this matter.
