HL Deb 05 March 1984 vol 449 c133WA
Baroness David

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What are their predictions of the numbers of students entering advanced further education in the next fifteen years.

The Earl of Swinton

In 1982–83, 89,000 home students entered full-time courses of advanced further education in Great Britain. The Government's 1983 projections of the demand for higher education published in DES Report on Education No. 99 do not identify advanced further education separately. They show a fall in the numbers entering higher education as a whole from 162,000 in 1982–83 to between 123,000 and 132,000 in 1987–88. The assumptions underlying these projections are currently under review and the Government plan to issue revised projections by around Easter.
