HC Deb 02 March 1984 vol 55 c353W
Mr. Ron Brown

asked the Prime Minister what steps she has taken, in view of the assurances in her letter to Bishop J. Monaghan on 21 February, to ensure that apprentices employed by Henry Robb Ltd. a shipyard closed by British Shipbuilders, are allowed to complete their training.

The Prime Minister

In my letter to Bishop Monaghan I said that British Shipbuilders is trying to ensure that as many Henry Robb apprentices as possible can complete their training. That remains the position. A number of places have already been found. For the rest British Shipbuilders is seeking to arrange transfers to yards elsewhere in the corporation and placements in other local firms. The Manpower Services Commission makes available adoption grants to assist in the placement and training of redundant apprentices with new employees.
