asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer by what percentage the Government's current expenditure, excluding transfer payments, increased between 1978–79 and 1983–84.

[pursuant to his reply, 17 February 1984 c. 346]: General Government current expenditure on goods and services increased by 94 per cent. in cash terms (14 per cent. in cost terms) between 1978–79 and 1983–84. The cash figures are available in table 1.11 of the public expenditure White Paper (Cmnd. 9431).
