§ Mr. Alan ClarkHeywood is part of the Bury travel-to-work area and Middleton is included in the Manchester travel-to-work area. Percentage rates of unemployment are calculated for complete travel-to-work areas only and not for their constituent parts. On 12 January the rate of unemployment in the Bury travel-to-work area, was 14.5 per cent., and the rate in the Manchester travel-to-work area was 13.8 per cent.
§ Mr. Boyesasked the Secretary of State for Employment what are the unemployment figures of the Houghton and Washington Jobcentres by age, sex and duration of unemployment for the latest date for which figures are available.

§ Mr. Alan ClarkOn 12 January there were 5,620 male and 2,326 female unemployed claimants in the area covered by the Houghton-le-Spring and Washington jobcentres, which corresponds closely to the Houghton and Washington parliamentary constituency. Included in those figures are 297 school leavers under 18 years of age.
§ Mr. Fatchettasked the Secretary of State for Employment how many women were registered as unemployed in January 1979 and January 1984.
§ Mr. Alan ClarkIn January 1979 the number of unemployed female claimants in the United Kingdom was 366,000. The corresponding number in January 1984 was 954,318.

The corresponding numbers in September 1978 were 3,611,000 and 5,624,000 respectively. The figures exclude private domestic servants and those for September 1983 are provisional.
