§ Sir Edward Gardnerasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what progress he has made in considering proposals for day and weekend imprisonment.
§ Mr. BrittanI have today published a Green Paper that examines in some detail the various proposals that have been made for intermittent custody—day or weekend imprisonment—and invites views on some critical issues. I have asked for comments by the end of September. The Government will consider, in the light of the comments received, whether a sentence of intermittent custody should be made available to the courts and what form it might take.
