§ Mr. Favellasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will estimate the cost of admitting part-time local government employees into the local government superannuation scheme.
§ Mr. WaldegraveThe proposed regulations for part-time local government employees would allow those who regularly work between 15 and 30 hours per week the option of joining the superannuation scheme. The cost to local authorities would therefore depend on the number who took up this option. If the level of take-up were 10 per cent., it is estimated that the cost by way of employers' contributions would be about £10 million per annum.
