asked the Secretary of State for Defence when orders are likely to be placed with shipyards for the refits of submarines and warships.

Mr. Lee

As announced in the Statement on Defence Estimates 1984 it is intended to offer two ships for refit by contract following competitive tender during 1984. The ships will be HMS Euryalus (a Leander class frigate) and HMS Otter (an Oberon class conventional submarine). To meet the required refit programme tenders will be invited for the refits in early and late August respectively and it is expected to place the contracts during October.
