HC Deb 26 June 1984 vol 62 c409W
Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science (1) what action he intends to take to improve the prospects of applicants from comprehensive schools to gain admission to Oxford and Cambridge universities;

(2) if he will issue recommendations to seek to ensure that comprehensive school pupils receive appropriate tuition for Oxford and Cambridge university entrance examinations.

Mr. Dunn

My right hon. Friend has no plans to take action or issue recommendations with these specific purposes in mind. However, the Government's policies for raising standards in schools will help all students as they prepare for entry to institutions of further and higher education.
